Occupational Health and Safety for Clinical Use on PPE

Content

Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to serious workplace injuries and illnesses. All PPE should be of safe design and construction, and should fit well and be comfortable to wear. If the personal protective equipment does not fit properly, it can make the difference between being safely covered or dangerously exposed. This makes no difference to Health Care Industry; clinical use PPE may commonly include items such as gloves, gown coveralls, vests; surgical masks or respirators, etc. An overview experience sharing would be conducted on the session.

Dr. Poon Wai-kwong, Director Board Member of Hong Kong Association of Occupational Health Nurses (HKAOHN), is now serving part time for The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Medicine, Accident and Emergency Medicine Academy Unit as Lecturer and used to be full time Professional Consultant. He further extended his active enthusiastic role in training and teaching in tertiary education. He has been serving as the part-time local undergraduate tutor for foreign universities in Hong Kong since 1996 with great recognition and has been appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor in The Chinese University of Hong Kong since 2005. His expert areas are on emergency, disaster nursing, infection control prevention and hospital quality management along with nursing informatics. He is now also playing professional consultancy role for various firms and companies in the Asia Pacific region.

Mutual Recognition Agreement with HKISA and HKICW

Hong Kong Industrial Safety Association (HKISA) and The Hong Kong Institute of Clerks of Works (HKICW) have signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) that provides a route for members of both HKICW and HKISA to join the other body, and enjoy the benefits which both respected designations can offer. Both institutions have joined forces to work on strengthening the Hong Kong safety profession.

HKICW members who have been admitted as members of Corporate Membership exempting from the requirement of submitting essays of “Experience Competence.”, are eligible for direct admission to HKISA membership.

1. Recognition of HKICW Membership by Hong Kong Industrial Safety Association:

Members of HKICW of the grades of Fellow and Member who submit formal applications for membership of Hong Kong Industrial Safety Association shall be offered “Direct Entry” and admitted as members of Corporate Membership exempting from the requirement of submitting essays of “Experience Competence.”

2. Waive of Application Fee and Part of First Year’s Membership Fee if admitted by “Direct Entry”:

If eligible members of HKICW are admitted successfully by Hong Kong Industrial Safety Association by way of the “Direct Entry” path, they are entitled to have the Application Fee waived and a 50% reduction of the annual membership subscription to be paid to Hong Kong Industrial Safety Association. The aforementioned fee scheme shall be effective from 1st July, 2014 until 31st December 2014.

The visit is aimed at providing participants with the continual techniques to tackle safety matters related to a leading manufacturer of precast units in Shenzhen.
